A Public Information Statement on the event will be posted and when

it is posted, it will be sent as a separate email to the SKYWARN

email list.

NOAA Reports La Nina Taking Hold Over the Pacific....

In late February, NOAA reported in an announcement on there web site

that La Nina is taking hold over the Pacific. The impact of La Nina

on the Spring and Summer weather will be interesting specific in

relation to the 2007 hurricane season. Below is a link to that

report from NOAA:

http://www.noaanews.noaa.gov/stories2007/s2805.htm

NOAA Research Plan on Hurricanes Announced....

NOAA has also announced a new federal research plan on tropical systems

and hurricanes. A link to that NOAA article with information on that

research plan is listed below:

http://www.noaanews.noaa.gov/stories2007/s2811.htm

The relevant web sites listed within the link above has more detailed

and technical information on the research plan and on hurricanes in

general.

Dr. Gray to Update Hurricane Outlook Next Week....

Dr. Gray will be updating his hurricane outlook next week on Tuesday

April 3rd. With the information provided by NOAA concerning evolving

La Nina conditions in the Pacific, it will be interesting to see what

impact it has on Dr. Gray's forecast. His December 8th outlook called

for an above normal season. Below is a link to Dr. Gray's forecasts:

NOAA will issue its hurricane outlook in either late April or May.

Weekly VoIP Hurricane Net Holds Several Presentations on Past weekly Nets...

The Weekly VoIP Hurricane Net which meets on IRLP reflector 9219 and

the *WX-TALK* Node: 7203 EchoLink conference server at 8 PM ET or 0000

UTC, has had a couple of very interesting presentations. The first

presentation was an impromptu interview of Mike "Sparky" Leger on

the Central Florida Tornadoes in February. The second presentation

was on the May Floods of 2006 covering Southeast New Hampshire and

Northeast Massachusetts which included a Power Point presentation.

Recordings of these presentations and past presentations held on the

weekly VoIP Hurricane Net can be seen at the VoIP Hurricane Net web

site at http://www.voipwx.net and clicking the VoIP WX Net Presentations

Archive link from the main menu.

Dave Cameron-VE7LTD IRLP Inventor Wins Prestigious Technical Excellence Award...

Its with great pleasure to let folks know that Dave Cameron-VE7LTD,

Inventor of IRLP has won the prestigious Technical Excellence Award

as sponsored by the Dayton Amateur Radio Association. This will be

given at the Dayton Hamvention. A link to the article appears below

and please note that Dave's mention of his award is halfway down the

article:

http://www.arrl.org/news/stories/2007/03/09/101/?nc=1

IRLP has transformed Amateur Radio and VHF/UHF communications into

something that interoperates with the Internet. Along with the

gateway technology that allows IRLP reflectors to interface with

EchoLink conference servers and with the technology to allow for

nodes to be "Echo-IRLP" meaning a node that can do either EchoLink

or IRLP connections, these are powerful tools that have been very

useful for the VoIP Hurricane Net, in Emergency Communications for

SKYWARN here in Southern New England and is being utilized on a

local/regional basis around the US and the globe for Emergency

Communications. This technology has also opened a new world of

fun for VHF/UHF Ham Operators enabling them to talk far greater

distances than they could in the past.

Congratulations to Dave on this well deserved award for a mode

of operation that has provided greater fun to the Amateur

community and a tremendous public service for Emergency

Communications.

That's all for this edition of the SKYWARN email Newsletter!

Respectfully Submitted,
